PROVO, Utah - The Pepperdine men's tennis team traveled to BYU for the final away match of the season, falling to the Cougars 4-1 on Saturday in a West Coast Conference matchup at the BYU Tennis Courts.
The Cougars (18-6, 7-2) took a decisive doubles point and would not let the Waves (6-15, 2-5) complete a comeback in singles play.

In doubles play, Lautaro Pane and Dane Esses continued their good form, winning their match on court one against Sean Hill and Jeffrey Hsu 6-4. After Dennis Uspensky and Yusuf Khamis fell in their match on three, the doubles point came down to court two. Max Mendelsohn and Brian Berdusco came from behind to tie the match at five games apiece, but were unable to complete the comeback.
After doubles play, the Cougars carried the momentum into singles, taking three of the six matches to take the match. Esses continued his hot streak, defeating Sam Tullis on court three 7-6, 4-6, 6-0. Pane won his first set in fifth position and was tied 5-5 in the second set when the match was clinched. Mendelsohn was down in his match when the match ended. The Cougars picked up wins on courts one, two and four to take the match.

The Waves host two matches next week, against San Francisco on Friday and against Santa Clara on Saturday to conclude regular season play. Both matches will be at 1 p.m.
