TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team fell to Alabama, 6-1 on Friday in a non-conference matchup at the Roberta Alison Indoor Tennis Center.

After today's loss to the Crimson Tide (10-0), the Waves (1-5) continue their road trip with a Sunday match with #14 Mississippi State.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

During the doubles competition, Dennis Uspensky and Dane Esses jumped out to an early lead, eventually defeating the pair of Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov, 6-1. Pedro Iamachkine and Max Mendelsohn also went ahead quickly, but Alabama's Riccardo Roberto and Patrick Kaukovalta rallied back to take the match, 6-3. The doubles point was clinched on court one, when 14th-ranked Edson Ortiz and Mazen Osama defeated Nicholas Baez and Brian Berdusco, 6-4.

The match then moved to singles, in which three Waves took their matches into three sets. Uspensky forced a third with Mazen Osama after dropping the first, 6-3, but responded with a strong 6-3 victory in the second. Osama would win the tiebreak set 10-7. Esses would also force a third set, taking the second set from Patrick Kaukovalta 6-4. Iamachkine won the lone match for the Waves, defeating Riccardo Roberto, 7-5, 4-6, and taking the tiebreak 11-9. Yusuf Khamis dropped his match with Thibault Cancel, 6-2, 6-2. Berdusco was defeated by Edson Ortiz, 6-3, 6-3, while Baez fell to Alexey Nesterov, 6-4, 6-3.

The Waves are back in action on Sunday, traveling to Starkville, Miss. to take on #14 Mississippi State at 9 am (PT).
