Skye Lindsay is a highly touted freshman forward from Orem, Utah. Lindsay is a graduate of Mountain View High School, where she won both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards while leading Mountain View to two consecutive regional championships. We sat down with Skye to discuss the upcoming season and ask her about her experiences at Pepperdine thus far:
Q: First off, welcome to Malibu! How have your first few months as a college student been so far, and what are you enjoying most about Pepperdine?
A: The first few months have been an eye-opening experience. I've been excited to see how much there is to learn both on and off the court. The academics here are incredible and even the subjects that aren't my major are interesting with great professors. What I'm enjoying most about Pepperdine is the sincere dedication that coaches, professors, academic advisors, etc., have and show to the students.
Q: Tell us a little bit about why you chose to attend Pepperdine, and why you wanted to play for Coach DeLisha?
A: As incredible of a player Coach DeLisha was, I think that she's just as great at coaching. When considering colleges I was looking for a coach who had experience, patience, dedication and honesty. Coach D and her staff are the culmination of these traits and the academics here at Pepperdine are fantastic.
Q: What are your goals for this coming season, as well as, your aspirations for your next four years in Malibu?
A: I want to be a part of the movement that's going to make Pepperdine women's basketball a force to be reckoned with. I think that starts this season, where we go out there and show the other teams that we're a force to be reckoned with.
Q: What word would you say best describes the way that you play?
A: Hustle.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your interests off the court. What are some of your favorite hobbies and what do you like to do for fun?
A: Off the court I'm an artist and an author. I never grew out of the horse-loving phase, and I ride and train whenever I can. I'm majoring in film where all my interests can be included.
Q: There are quite a few newcomers on this season's roster. What role have the upperclassmen played in helping to acclimate the freshmen and integrate them within the team environment?
A: The upperclassmen are honestly the best. They're like older sisters and show us the ropes. I'm so excited to play with them.
Q: What are you most looking forward to this season? Are there any particular games that will be circled on your calendar?
A: BYU and Portland. BYU because I'm from that area and one of my former high school teammates plays there. Portland because I almost committed there.
Q: Lastly, if you had to choose three adjectives to describe this year's team, what would they be and why?
A: Aggressive, cohesive and eclectic. We've got a lot of different players with lots of different skill sets that complement one another very well. We're hungry for the best season yet, and one of our main focuses is being "15 strong" -- meaning that we're all in and we're all making sure that we're on the same page.
