
Waves Take First Session at Lions Cup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team started competition at the Lions Cup, hosted by Loyola Marymount, with a thrilling one-point victory over the host team, 110-109 on Friday. Nicole Matheson and Julia Sneden both took first in their races.
The Waves had an outstanding day from many of their swimmers, with ten top-five finishers. Matheson won the 500 free with a time of 5:17.89, and Sneden won the 200IM with a time of 2:13.12. Other top-five finishers were Khloe McCarthy and Ryanne Skinner in the 500 free (5:22.54 and 5:23.46, respectively), Slater and Stigers in the 200 IM (2:18.23 and 2:21.32, respectively) and Boone and Trinity Ishikawa in the 50 free (:24.81 and :25.23, respectively). Pepperdine also had three top-three finishes in the 200 medley relay (Sammie Slater, Lauren Stigers, Sneden, and Caroline Boone)and the 800 free relay in the teams of McCarthy, Boone, Slater and Matheson (8:04.96), and Paige Brackett, Joie Eckhard, Skinner and Sneden (8:12.43).
The Waves have two more sessions tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., each of which will also be scored as separate meets.
