RESULTS SANTA CLARA, Calif.: The Pepperdine men's tennis team earned its fourth West Coast Conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center, defeating Santa Clara 4-1 after winning the doubles point and three singles matches.
In doubles action, the Waves (9-8, 4-1 WCC) won on courts two and three against the Broncos (14-4, 4-3 WCC), before besting the opposition on courts one, five and six to complete the dual win.
To open the match, senior Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International) and junior Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) put down Andrew Gu and Kamran Khan with a 6-2 final mark in the No. 3 doubles position.
Then in the No. 2-slot, senior Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and sophomore Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano) defeated Robert Seby and Jesus Barajas with a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point and send Pepperdine into singles action with a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano) opened singles action with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court six over Kamran Khan. Then, his doubles partner Hadlich dominated the opposition in the No. 1 position with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Robert Seby to put the Waves in clinching territory. The Broncos picked up the team's first and only point of the day with a win on court two.
Freshman Dane Esses (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS) clinched the dual with a three-set battle against Vasileios Iliopoulos. After splitting the first two sets 5-7, 6-1, he fought hard in the third set for a 6-4 win to win the match for the clinch.
Next, the Waves will return home to close out home-action at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center with BYU and San Diego on April 14 and 15. Senior day will occur during the San Diego match.
