Men's Tennis Sweeps WCC Opponents Saint Mary's

RESULTS| PHOTO GALLERYMALIBU, Calif.: The Pepperdine men's tennis team reopened West Coast Conference play this Friday afternoon sweeping Saint Mary's 4-0 at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center after a two-month hiatus since beating LMU in January. The Waves dominated doubles actions with wins on courts two and three, before sweeping courts three, four and six for the uncontested conference victory.

Pepperdine (6-7, 2-0 WCC) continued big play in doubles, collecting dominating wins on courts two and three to start the day over Saint Mary's (5-9, 0-2 WCC).

Junior duo Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) were the first pair to finish on court three with a commanding 6-1 victory over Calvin Jordaan and Brian Lee.

Senior Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and sophomore Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano) then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Matthew Campana and Manuel de Luis Lamelas to send Pepperdine into singles with a 1-0 lead.

In singles action, Pane, Iamachkine and freshman Dane Esses (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS) then downed the Gaels on courts three, four and six en route to the sweep.

Esses was the first to finish with a pair of 6-1 sets over Jacob Lagman on court six. Iamachkine then bested Calvin Jordaan with a 6-0, 6-3 mark to put the Waves in clinching territory.

Pane would deliver the final blow, crushing Matthew Campana with a 6-0, 6-1 final result on court three to help the Waves to the 4-0 conference win.

Next, the Waves host Pacific on Saturday at 2 p.m. to continue WCC action at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu. Immediately following the match, there will be a free adult clinic hosted by Assistant Coach Martin Parkes and several current men's tennis players. Free team gear will be given away, available to those attending the clinic!
