Pepperdine (4-7, 1-0 WCC) posted another solid effort in doubles despite dropping the point to TCU (9-4). Then in singles, the Waves won in the No. 6 position, but the opposition posted wins on courts one, two and five to secure the overall dual victory.
In doubles, the Horned Frogs struck first on court two as their 27th-ranked pair defeated the Waves No. 2 duo. Junior duo Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) evened the doubles action on court three with a 6-4 victory of Cameron Norrie and Gianni Mancini to put all eyes on court one.
Senior Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) and sophomore Jack Van Slyke (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Laurel Springs HS (Calif.)) worked point-for-point with Reese Stalder and Jerry Lopez, working to a 4-4 tie late in the set. TCU had the momentum, though, and posted the final 6-4 win to pull ahead 1-0 on the night heading into singles.
In singles, freshman Dane Esses (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS) dominated his competitor Gianni Mancini en route to a commanding 6-1 lead early. He then posted a 6-4 victory in set two to post sixth overall collegiate victory.
The Horned Frogs were ahead on three courts, however, and closed out the night with wins on courts one, two and five to finish with a 4-1 victory.
