Waves Hold Annual Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony

April 14, 2016 MALIBU, Calif. " The men's basketball team and women's swimming and diving team led all programs by earning four awards apiece at Pepperdine's annual student-athlete awards ceremony on Wednesday night.

Dubbed the "Pep Espys", the event was put on by student-athletes and held in Elkins Auditorium. Stacy Davis of the men's basketball team and Rylee Baisden of the women's soccer team were the hosts for the evening.

The five traditional awards went to David Pelekoudas of men's golf (Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year), Hannah Turpin of women's track (Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year), Amanda Rowe of women's swimming (Maurice Hilliard Award), Hannah Seabert and Meagan Harbison of women's soccer (Female Waves of the Year) and the entire men's cross country team (Male Wave of the Year).

The Maurice Hilliard Award, given in honor and memory of Pepperdine's late athletic chaplain, goes to a student-athlete that exemplifies the attributes of Christian faith, character and leadership. The Wave of the Year, presented by Pepperdine's SAAC, honors student-athletes for outstanding contributions in spirit and service to the athletics program and the university community.

Student-athletes voted on the remainder of the awards, which are all in their second year of existence. They cover events held over the last year dating back to April 2015. Here were the winners:

Female Athlete in a Starring Role: Jessica Mosbaugh, women's swimming
Male Athlete in a Starring Role: Stacy Davis, men's basketball
Female Athlete in a Supporting Role: Allison Naasz, women's swimming
Male Athlete in a Supporting Role: Jett Raines, men's basketball
Female Breakout Athlete of the Year: Tori Occhipinti, women's diving
Male Breakout Athlete of the Year: Lamond Murray Jr., men's basketball
Female Rookies of the Year: Skylar Caputo, Madalyn Roh, Anika Wilson, Kaity Bailey of beach volleyball; Tarah Wylie of women's indoor volleyball
Male Rookie of the Year: Kameron Edwards, men's basketball
Best Moment of the Year: Pepperdine baseball winning the 2015 WCC Tournament.
Best Upset of the Year: Pepperdine beach volleyball defeating #1 USC.
