MALIBU, California " The Pepperdine men's and women's cross country teams have been working all season toward this moment, as the Waves will run at the West Coast Conference Championships in San Diego on Friday morning.
The meet will be held at Tecolote Shores Park, with the women's 6K at 10 a.m. and men's 8K at 11 a.m. There will be live coverage on TheW.tv.
The Waves have already seen the course once, having taken part in the WCC Preview Meet back in the middle of September.
Nick Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS) gives the Waves their best chance at an All-WCC performance. The sophomore has won twice this season (the Pepperdine Invitational and the WCC Preview Meet) and finished in the top 12 at all four events, while breaking his own school record in the 8K.
Redshirt junior Nick Blanchard (Portland, Conn./Portland HS) and senior Ben Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS) have also had fine seasons -- joining Heath with the three-best 8K times in program history -- and the Waves will be looking for strong efforts from their #4 and #5 runners to help the squad improve upon last season's eighth-place finish.
The other men running are senior Torin Wile (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS), junior Nicholas Serrao (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) and freshmen Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) and Jalen Frantal (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS).
On the women's side, senior Lindsay Sheaffer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) was Pepperdine's top runner at each of the three events at which she competed. She will be striving for her best showing yet at the fourth WCC meet of her career.
For the majority of the rest of the women's squad, it'll be their first-ever WCC meet. Sophomore Elise Froebe (Lake Forest Park, Wash./Shorecrest HS) competed last year, but the rest of the traveling party are true freshmen: Izabela Garcia-Arce (Bonita, Calif./Bonita Vista HS), Samantha Maness (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton HS), Lupita Perez (Fillmore, Calif./Fillmore HS), Cori Persinger (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West HS), Tatum Rask (Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge HS), Bri Wilson (Murrieta, Calif./Linfield Christian School) and Andrea Zumpano (Coral Gables, Fla./Westminster Christian School).
