Aug. 18, 2015 MALIBU, Calif. -- Pepperdine University Director of Athletics Dr. Steve Potts announced a reorganization of the department's administrative staff today along with several promotions.
With the recent retirement of Cindy Del Dosso, three Associate Directors of Athletics -- Brian Barrio, Karina Herold and David Rhoades -- remain, while four current staff members have been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics -- Roger Horne, Matt Kalish, Kevin Wright and Matt Young. Additionally, Amanda Wood has been promoted to Director of Compliance.
"Cindy Del Dosso made a significant and invaluable contribution to Pepperdine athletics for so many years," Potts said. "She contributed to the success of our student-athletes competitively, academically and in preparation for their life after athletics. We are thankful for Cindy's dedication and commitment and wish for her and her husband Dave all the best in the future.
"We are blessed to have a highly talented staff, truly dedicated to our mission and the total well-being of all of our student-athletes. These changes in our structure provide increased responsibilities and recognition and greater efficiency in serving our coaches and student-athletes. I am thankful to our entire administrative staff for their extraordinary efforts."
Barrio, Herold and Rhoades will report directly to Potts and will have oversight of several departments and teams.
Barrio, the Associate A.D. for Administration, joined Pepperdine in 2011 and oversees all matters related to compliance, academic support and business operations. He also serves as the department's Title IX coordinator and is the sport supervisor for baseball, women's soccer, men's volleyball and men's water polo. He earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1999 and a juris doctorate from the University of California-Hastings College of the Law in 2005.
Herold, the Associate A.D. for External Operations, also arrived at Pepperdine in 2011. In addition to overseeing marketing and promotions, sponsorships, branding and communications, she also serves as the department's Senior Women's Administrator and is in charge of the tennis, women's indoor volleyball and women's beach volleyball progams. Herold was the Tournament Manager for the 2013 and 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball West Regional Championship, which Pepperdine hosted at Staples Center (and will do again in 2018). She graduated from UC San Diego in 2005 and earned a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2008.
Rhoades, the Associate A.D. for Facilities and Operations, is the Waves' longest-serving administrator currently on staff. A 1985 Pepperdine graduate who played for the Waves' baseball team, he returned in Malibu as an assistant baseball coach in 1994. He would also be the Director of Athletic Academic Services before being promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2003. In addition to facilities and game management operations, he oversees the sports medicine and strength and conditioning departments as well as the cross country, golf, swimming and track programs. Rhoades also holds a master's degree from Azusa Pacific.

Kalish, now the Assistant A.D. for Business Operations, was previously the Director of Athletic Facilities. He joined the Athletics staff in a full-time role in 2008 but also earned both bachelor's (2005) and master's (2010) degrees from Pepperdine.
Wright, now the Assistant A.D. for Sports Medicine, returned to Pepperdine in 2002 after previously graduating from the University in 1996. He was an Assistant Athletic Trainer for seven years before being elevated to Head Athletic Trainer in 2009. Wright also earned a master's degree from Oregon in 1999.

Young earned both his bachelor's (2001) and master's (2004) degrees from Lipscomb. He was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Lipscomb while Potts was the Director of Athletics there.
Wood, now the Director of Compliance, first became part of Pepperdine's compliance staff in December 2011. Prior to that, she worked for the West Coast Conference as a sports services coordinator. Wood earned a bachelor's degree from Central College in 2006 and a master's degree from Iowa in 2008.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY -- Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports -- one of just 17 schools to have accomplished this feat -- and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). Located in scenic Malibu, Calif., the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #54 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
