MALIBU, Calif. -- The postseason awards continue to roll in for the Pepperdine women's tennis team, with the announcement of the 2015 West Coast Conference All-Academic awards. Sophomore Christine Maddox and junior Danielle Feneridis both earned WCC All-Academic status for their successes both on and off the court.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS), a sports administration major, boasts a GPA of 3.60. The sophomore garnered WCC All-Tournament status in both singles and doubles at the conference championships, and has been an integral part of the Waves' success this season.
In singles, Maddox has gone 14-5 this dual season, splitting time between the No. 5 and No. 6 spots in the lineup.
Maddox has shined on the doubles court, and is NCAA Doubles Championship-bound along with Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul). The duo, currently ranked #23 by the ITA, is 14-1 this season, including a 7-0 tally vs. conference opponents.
Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) earned a spot on the honorable mention roster. The junior carries a 3.34 GPA while majoring in advertising.
Feneridis has held down the No. 3 spot in the doubles lineup this season, along with Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College). The pair went a perfect 3-0 at the WCC Tournament, earning themselves a spot on the all-tournament team. Feneridis and Capannolo are 11-11 together in 2014-15.
In singles, Feneridis has posted a perfect 4-0 record vs. WCC foes.
This is the first WCC All-Academic Team award for both Maddox and Feneridis.
The Waves, currently ranked #19, open the NCAA Tournament next week Friday, May 8 against #44 Auburn on the campus of Stanford.
