SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The #42-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team opened the West Coast Conference Tournament with a 4-0 shutout over BYU. The win sends the Waves into the semifinal round, where they'll meet #52 San Francisco.

Pepperdine controlled the tempo of the dual from start to finish, and with the exception of one loss in doubles, the Waves did not yield the Cougars a single set.

Newly paired Pedro Iamachkine (Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) and Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) got their team started off with an 8-4 triumph against Francis Sargeant and Juan Canales from the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Although BYU got a match back at No. 3, All-WCC duo Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/St. Vincent's High School) downed Jacob Sullivan and Shane Monroe by an 8-6 tally to clinch the doubles point.

Iamachkine was the first off the court in singles after a straight-set 6-0, 7-6 win over Canales at No. 4.

Thakkar kept it rolling, and lifted the Waves to a 3-0 advantage after scoring a point at No. 2. The senior dispatched Monroe 6-4, 6-3.

Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany/Goeth Gymnasium Bensheim) put Pepperdine out of reach at 4-0 with his 6-1, 6-4 win versus Aidan Carrazedo.

Hadlich, Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) and Pane were all up a set when play was stopped.

Pepperdine and USF square off in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m. Live scoring coverage will be available through the Tournament Central. The Waves won the regular-season matchup on road, 4-2.
