Women's volleyball newcomer Tarah Wylie earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors and a spot on the WCC All-Freshman Team. Wylie played in all 115 sets and averaged 2.54 kills and 1.10 blocks. She is the 12th Wave to receive the Freshman of the Year award since 1986. Â She reflects on her successful first college season and achievements:

Q: How do you think your first year playing for the Waves went as a whole?
A: I think that my first year of playing here at Pepperdine was very eye-opening and served as a great starting point for me and many of my teammates. I think that we will continue to grow as individuals and as a team.
Q: What is your favorite in-game memory from the year?
A: One of my favorites was when we took a set off of BYU. This was one to remember because I can look back on the fight we had, how our teamwork really paid off and the excitement I could feel throughout the whole gym.
Q: What is your favorite out-of-game memory from the year?
A: I loved when we went to the Golden Gate Bridge and our adventures every time we traveled.Â
Q: How did the older girls on the team help you progress after your transition to college play from high school?
A: The older girls really helped my transition because of their leadership and experience, not only in this sport, but also in life.
Q: WCC Freshman of the Year! What does that mean to you?
A: I was very honored to receive this award and I owe it all to the countless coaches and teammates I have had over the years, especially at Pepperdine. This award just shows me that hard work can pay off and that I need to continue the grind to become a better player and person.
Q: What is a piece of advice you would give a high school senior getting ready to join the college ranks next year?
A: One piece of advice I would pass on, that I have read about from Alex Hutchinson, is to make sure you're 100 percent committed and believe init. Whether it is belief in your coach or your training -- that is where a lot of the marginal gains come from.
Q: After so many great accomplishments during your freshman year, do you have any goals for next season?
A: One of my goals for next year is to help my team take the WCC title.
