MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine cross country teams are headed back to the Bay Area this weekend as the Waves' third meet of the season is at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 27).
The race will be held on the Stanford Golf Course, with the men's 8K at 9:50 a.m. and the women's 6K to follow at 10:30 a.m. It's the most sizeable meet the Waves will take part in this season, as more than 200 runners were in each race last year.
"This meet sets up really nicely for us in that it's also the site of the NCAA West Regional Championship, so we're going to be going back in a little more than a month to compete against the best schools in the West," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "Everyone is excited, the weather is going to be great, and it will be a great weekend for our teams."
Junior Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) was the women's top runner at the first two meets of the season (and at six of the last eight dating back to the 2013 season). Freshmen Kevin Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS) and Rudy Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif./California HS) have each led the men once.
"Training has been going really, really well," Radnoti said. "We've been in a two or three-week cycle with our training so we've seen how much we've been improving. This will be a fun meet to go to."
