MALIBU, Calif. - Eight members of Pepperdine's men's and women's cross country teams earned West Coast Conference All-Academic awards on Thursday, led by Ben Fox and Lisa Santroch earning first team honors.
To qualify for WCC All-Academic status, runners must compete in at least half of the meets while achieving at least sophomore status and having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.
It's the first time making the first team for both Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain HS), a sophomore physics major, and Santroch (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood HS), a senior accounting major. Santroch was honorable mention last season.
Santroch finished as the Waves' #2 or #3 runner at all six women's races during the 2014 season. Fox had his best showing at the season-ending NCAA West Regional, as he was the top men's finisher for Pepperdine.
Attaining honorable mention notice was sophomore Jackson Hogan (University Place, Wash./Curtis Senior HS) on the men's side, and for the women it was junior Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS), sophomore Sydney Gray (Bellingham, Wash./Meridian HS), junior Rachel Rant (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS), sophomore Lindsay Sheaffer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and sophomore Ellie Smith (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck HS). Engel and Rant both received honorable mention acclaim for the second time.
In Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti's nine years as head coach, he's now had his runners earn WCC All-Academic awards 53 times.
