MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine cross country teams will look to finish the 2014 season on a strong note on Friday when the Waves run at the NCAA West Regional hosted by Stanford.
The women's 6K will start at 11 a.m. at the Stanford Golf Course, followed by the men's 10K at 12 p.m. Thirty-eight women's programs are expected to send runners, as well as 32 for the men.
The top two teams at the event will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships, in addition to the top four individuals not on qualifying teams.
"It's a big meet for our team," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "It's a good opportunity for us to learn. Our teams are very young and they're growing. We're talking about what we're building to in the next two or three years, so we're excited about that. I think he kids will really come up to the challenge."
The Waves have already seen the course once this season at the Stanford Invitational back on September 27.
Junior Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) has been the women's top runner at four of the five meets, including the West Coast Conference Championships two weekends ago. Freshman Kevin Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS) had led the men a team-best three times, including at the WCC Championships.
