MALIBU, Calif. - After four regular-season meets, the Pepperdine cross country teams are moving on to the postseason portion of the schedule as the Waves will run at the West Coast Conference Championships this Saturday (Nov. 1).
The races will be hosted by Santa Clara and held at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The women's 6K will start at 10 a.m. and the men's 8K will run at 11 a.m. The meet will be shown live on TheW.tv.
"Our training has been really focused on WCCs," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "Everything has been pointing to this and I think our team is ready."
The Waves are looking to improve upon conference finishes of seventh (women) and eighth (men) place from a year ago. The Waves have already seen the course once this season at the WCC Preview Meet back on September 13.
"The course is pretty flat, it's flat and fast and it's a PR course," Radnoti said. "Our kids are excited about that because they're always chasing PRs. It'll be fun for them."
Junior Katie Engel (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima HS) was the women's top runner at each of the first three meets of the season, while sophomore Lindsay Sheaffer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) was first at the Highlander Invitational two weeks ago. Freshman Kevin Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS) had led the men twice while sophomore Gordie Thomas (Fallbrook, Calif./Great Oak HS) and freshman Rudy Gonzalez (Whittier, Calif./California HS) have each done it once.
After this, the Waves have the NCAA West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif., on November 14.
