LOS ANGELES - The top-ranked Pepperdine women's sand volleyball team remained undefeated in 2013 as it beat #4 USC, 4-1, in dual match play on Tuesday afternoon at the Trojan's new on-campus Merle Norman Stadium.
The Waves upped its record to 6-0 this season. USC, playing its final regular-season home match of 2013, fell to 9-3 on the year.
Pepperdine swept the first four matches of the day. The Waves started off by winning at the No. 4 spot in the lineup as newly paired Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) and Taylor Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) beat Brooke Fournier and Natasa Siljkovic, 21-16, 21-13.
Emily Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) and Katie Messing (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodland HS), competing in their first match together, chalked a straight-set 21-13, 21-19 win over Sam Hirschmann and Alexa Stonish at No. 5.
Next, Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) and Kim Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian HS) went up against former teammate Stevi Robinson and Kirby Burnham in the No. 1 match. Frederick and Hill improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season with a 21-13, 21-19 triumph.
Kelley Larsen (Jamul, Calif./Christian HS) and Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) then swept Eve Ettinger and Bria Russ, 21-14, 21-17, at No. 3.
USC's only win of the day came in three sets as the No. 2 duo of Katie Fuller and Cinnamon Sary came outlasted Caitlin Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) and Lara Dykstra (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union HS/Nebraska), 13-21, 22-20, 15-13, to close out the day's competition.
Pepperdine continues the week at the FIU Surf and Turf Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
