
Chiang Advances to Semifinal at Jack Kramer Club

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. - Yuki Chiang of the Pepperdine women's tennis team was the star of Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational today, grinding out two three-set victories to advance to the semifinal round.
Chiang (Ojai, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) improved to 8-4 on the season with the two wins today. She first eliminated 16th seeded Blair Shankle of Baylor 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. In the quarterfinals, the freshman was faced with 12th seeded Gabriella DeSantis of Ohio State. After falling in the first set 3-6, Chiang stormed back to win 6-4, 7-5.
Chiang, who is draw's No. 6 seed, will face top-seeded Stefanie Tan of TCU in tomorrow's semifinal.
In doubles, Chiang teamed up with Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) to down Ohio State's Sandy Niehaus and Graninne O'Neil, 8-4. The pair resumes action in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Meanwhile, at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) made her exit after suffering a loss in consolation.
