AUSTIN, Texas - The Pepperdine women's volleyball team lost to the Israel National Team, 3-1, this morning in an exhibition match. Despite the loss, Lilla Frederick delivered a solid performance, leading the Waves in kills, digs and service aces.
Israel won the first two sets 25-19, 25-18, before Pepperdine rebounded with a 27-25 win in the third. The national team clinched the match with a 25-17 fourth set win
Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) posted her second double-double of the season, with 11 kills and 11 digs. Her match-best five service aces set a new career-high, and brought her point total to 17.0.
Samantha Cash (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy) followed with six kills, seven blocks and 11.0 points, while Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) concluded the morning with 31 assists, nine digs, six kills and three blocks.
Emily Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif./Murrieta Valley HS) came off the bench for her season debut with five kills.
The Israeli offensive assault was led by Anna Velikiy and Tatiana Artmenko, who nailed down 23 and 14 kills respectively. As a team, they finished with 61 kills on a .316 clip.
The Waves struggled to get their offense going, and totaled 41 kills earned on a .155 hitting percentage.
Pepperdine was solid on the defensive front with 11.5 total blocks.
The Waves conclude action at the Burnt Orange Classic this evening, with a 5 p.m. (PT) match versus Ole Miss.
