Women's Tennis Defeats Cal Poly 6-1

Bhargava (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) and Zalameda (Los Angeles, Calif./Beverly Hills HS) were named the West Coast Conference's Doubles Team of the Month for March earlier this week, and they continued their fine play with an 8-5 win over Cal Poly's 26th-ranked duo at the #1 position.
The Waves went on to sweep all three doubles matches, only the second time this season that's happened.
Pepperdine would clinch the overall contest by winning the first three singles matches to finish in straight sets. Bhargava, ranked #120, posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Cal Poly's 85th-ranked Suzie Matzenauer at the #2 position, while sophomore Ali Walters (Newport Beach, Calif./Creekside Christian School/UCLA) and sophomore Andrea Oates (Pretoria, South Africa) took care of business at #3 and #4.
The last three matches to finish all went to a third set and all were determined by a super-tiebreaker. The Waves won two of the three, including a battle at #1 between a pair of ranked opponents. Freshman Arianna Colffer (Corona, Calif./Buena Vista), ranked #87, defeated #86 Brittany Blalock 10-5 in the super-tiebreaker.
#54 Pepperdine improved to 7-12 while #58 Cal Poly dropped to 12-5.
The Waves, who are in the midst of playing their final 12 regular-season matches at home, are back in action tomorrow (Thursday, April 8) against rival Loyola Marymount at 1:30 p.m.
