Bhargava (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) defeated 40th-ranked Lindsay Burdette, 6-2, 7-5, at the #2 singles position. It was 5-5 in the second set when Bhargava held serve, and then broke Burdette's serve in the final game. Bhargava improved to 3-6 against nationally ranked opponents this season and this was the highest-ranked player she has beaten.
But Stanford (11-1), with two ranked doubles teams and a total of five ranked singles players in the lineup, was victorious in the rest of the matches.
The Waves (6-11), who are in the midst of playing their final 12 regular-season matches at home, are back in action next Wednesday (March 31) against Cal Poly at 1:30 p.m.
