Walters Advances to Semifinals at Midland Invitational

Midland, Texas - Sophomore Alexandria Walters breezed through the round of 16 and the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals at the 2009 Midland Invitational on Saturday.
"Ali has had four great matches at this tournament," said assistant coach Scott Doerner. "Tomorrow will be a good test for her as she faces the No. 1 seed in the semifinals."
Walters will meet Jenlena Stanivicik (Baylor) in the semifinals at 9 a.m. (CT).
Sophomore Andrea Oates advanced to the semifinals of the women's consolation bracket with victories over Sheva Shankar (Rice) 6-4, 6-3 and Nikola Matovicova (UTA) 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Freshman teammates Arianna Colffer and Marie Zalameda suffered losses in the round of 16. Colffer fell to Megan Alexander (TCU) 6-4, 7-6, while Zalmeda was defeated by the No. 1 tournament seed Jenlena Stanivicik (Baylor) 6-2, 3-6, 10-4.
Both women's doubles teams were eliminated in the round of 16. Oliver/Urbina (Texas A&M) defeated Bhargava/Zalameda (PEP) 8-6 and Davidson/Santacoce were victorious over Colffer/Walters (PEP) 8-5.
Freshman Finn Tearney continued to advance in the men's consolation bracket with a win over Phil Anderson (New Mexico) 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (4), in the quarterfinals. Tearney will face Jaden Phillips (New Mexico) in the semifinals.
