A block by freshman middle blocker Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) and Seaton finally ended the run, but the Rainbow Wahine ended the set a few points later.
Grochmal scored the first point of the second set on a kill, but Hawaii rolled off the next six points. Pepperdine would get no closer than three points the rest of the set, including at 16-13 after a kill by Frederick and a UH attack error.
The Waves fell behind early in the third set as well, trailing 7-2. They would get within one point at 15-14 after a kill by Grochmal and two Hawaii attack errors. But the Rainbow Wahine effectively put the match away by scoring the next six points. A Grochmal kill stopped the run and made it 21-15, but Hawaii would go on to win from there.
Hawaii was led by 11 kills from Kanani Danielson and 10 by Stephanie Ferrell.
The Waves take a week off before beginning West Coast Conference play at home on October 1 and 3 against Saint Mary's and San Diego, respectively.
