SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - In its regular season finale, the Pepperdine women's volleyball team got 23 kills from sophomore middle blocker Kim Hill and defeated San Francisco in five sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) in West Coast Conference play on Saturday.

The Waves (16-11, 9-5), who lost in five sets to USF (13-14, 7-7) at home earlier this season, held off the Dons' attempt to sweep the season series for the first time ever. Pepperdine is now 47-3 all-time against USF.

With the win, Pepperdine clinched third place in the WCC.

Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian HS) had a career-high kill total and hit .421 (23-7-38) with four blocks. She finished the regular season with a streak of 13 straight matches with double-figure kills. She entered the weekend ranked #5 in the country in hitting percentage.

Pepperdine's two seniors also had strong matches. Outside hitter Rachel Grochmal (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) had

15 kills and 12 digs and setter Kiah Fiers (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Peninsula HS) had 55 assists, eight digs and six kills.

Freshman middle blocker Victoria Adelhelm (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian HS) had 11 kills and nine blocks, sophomore outside hitter Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Calif./Cornelia Connelly HS) had 10 kills and nine digs, freshman outside hitter Caitlin Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) had six kills and 10 digs and sophomore libero Stevi Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) added 16 digs.

The Waves, who outhit the Dons .306-.244, survived 34 kills from USF's Sarah Mandala.

Pepperdine hadn't won before Saturday when losing the first set but put a stop that trend as the Waves came back to take the second and third sets by slim margins. USF won the fourth to extend the match to the decisive final set.

USF had an early 4-2 lead and was still up 7-6 when Pepperdine scored four straight points: a kill and then a solo block by Adelhelm, a service ace by Frederick and a shared block by Adelhelm and Grochmal. USF would get back within one point at 13-12 and 14-13 but Hill ended the match with a kill.
