Q: What was it like making the transition from
A: “It was a great experience. It was a new culture and a different way of life. Going to school in

A: “Mostly everyone I went to school with did sports. It wasn’t as competitive as I was used to, but we got to travel all over to compete against other teams.”
Q: Did you travel outside of
A: “There weren’t very many teams to compete against in
Q: You went to high school in
A: “I came to Pepperdine for soccer camp and really liked everything about it. I met Coach Kampmann while I was here and my interests kind of shifted to cross country.”
Q:
A: “I have no regrets at all. I needed a big scholarship to be able to attend Pepperdine and when I was awarded the Air Force scholarship, I knew I would be going for sure.”
Q: Tell me about how you became interested in the military?
A: “Well, almost everyone I went to school with in
Q: Do you plan on making the military a career?
A: “Possibly. I’m planning on applying for air battle manager or intelligence when I graduate.”
Q: What does an air battle manager do?
A: “You’re the one in the plane telling the pilot where to go. You plan battles mid-air.”
Q: That sounds very intense. What do you like best about your military training?
A: “I love the survival training. It’s challenging both physically and mentally.”
Q: You did quite well at your field training class this summer in
A: “It was really hot! The point of the training is to measure your stress levels and leadership skills. I was received the Superior Performer award and the Iron Women award for having the highest score on all three of the fitness tests. I also made Expert Marksman for shooting.”
Q: How has your track and cross country career at Pepperdine been?
A: “It just keeps getting better and better. I’ve learned so much about training and the program is not too intense. It still has that small-school feel.”
Q: What are your goals individually and as a team in the future?
A: “I’d like to have a season with all of us on the same level, communicating and training. I feel as if we are developing as more of a team than in the past. Individually, I’d like to finish at the regional meet with some of the

Q: What have you learned from academics and athletics at Pepperdine?
A: “I think David Beckham said it best. It’s a round world. Sometimes you’re on top of the world, sometimes you’re on the bottom. If you’re down and you’re feeling hopeless, you have to remind yourself that you’ll be back on top again.”
