Waves Miss Chances, Fall to #6 Hawaii 3-0

MALIBU, Calif. - For the sixth time this season junior Katy Daly led the Pepperdine women's volleyball team in kills recording 25 late Friday night in Honolulu, Hawaii as the Waves fell to 2-6 on the season after dropping three tightly-contested matches to the Rainbow Wahine at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Games one and two saw Pepperdine hold leads late into the contests only to come up short. The Waves scored the first three points of the night and led by six at 19-13. But the Wahine would fight back to claim a 25-24 lead. Both sides traded points until Hawaii used a Wave's service and hitting error to claim the 30-28 win.
The second game would see Pepperdine playing catch up after allowing Hawaii out to an early 8-4 advantage. The Waves would complete the comeback to take its first lead in the game at 16-15. Trailing by one, 25-24, the `Bows would close out the game with six one run to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the intermission.
The final game would see Hawaii lead from wire-to-wire although Pepperdine never let up on the Wahine. Hawaii built up a five-point advantage at 27-22 only to see the Waves string together a 5-2 run but 29-27 would be as close as Pepperdine got, falling 30-27.
These two teams will conclude their two-match series Saturday evening at 10:00 p.m. (PDT) in a match which will air via tape delay as part of CSTV's Sunday Night Spikes. The match will be shown on Adelphia Cable channel 119 in Thousand Oaks and on DirectTV channel 160 Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (PDT)
