Pepperdine Falls in Four to Ohio

MALIBU, Calif. - Sophia Milo and Katy Daly led the Waves' attack with 11 kills each but the team hit a minus .011 for the match as the 18th-ranked Pepperdine women's volleyball team fell to the Ohio Bobcats 3-1 Saturday morning in Fort Collins, Colo.
Ohio (8-2) received a match-high 19 kills from Stephanie Blackburn, while Julia Winkfield and Holly Schetzle added 15 and 12, respectively, to lead the Bobcats to a 63-47 advantage in kills. Blackburn tacked on 15 digs to complete the double-double. Ashley Elliott was a force at the net with 14 blocks (1 solo, 13 assists), while as a team Ohio finished with a 24-15 advantage.
Pepperdine (2-5) started off slow for the second consecutive match falling in game one 30-13 and hitting minus .150 for the game. While the Waves managed to even the match up at 1-1 in taking game two, 36-34, as a team they hit just .096, the highest mark of the morning. Melissa Mehlhorn (Tempe, Ariz.) recorded a double-double for the second consecutive match with 34 assists and 14 digs, while Christina Hinds (Beverly Hills, Calif.) led the Waves with 20 digs.
The Bobcats would rally back after losing game two to take games three and four 30-20 and 30-25, respectively.
Having lost five of its last six, Pepperdine will be back in action next Friday and Saturday as it travels to #7 Hawaii for a pair of matches against the Rainbow Wahine. Saturday's match will be shown on CSTV's Sunday Night Spike via tape delay at 3:00 p.m. (PDT) on Sunday.
