MALIBU, Calif. - Katy Daly and Sophia Milo notched 19 kills each in Pepperdine's opening match of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic but it was not enough as the ninth-ranked Waves fell in four games to No. 18 Louisville 3-1 (28-30, 33-31, 30-28, 30-19) Friday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz.
Daly (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) added 14 digs for her third double-double of the season, while Melissa Mehlhorn (Tempe, Ariz./Valley Christian HS) recorded a season-high 59 assists and 17 digs for her first double-double of the year.
Five Cardinals (5-0) tallied double-digit kills in the match led by Bing Sun's 15. But Louisville won the match on defense as six players recorded double-figure digs highlighted by Stephanie Marsh and Svetlana Yartseva's 13. Jennifer Hoffman was a force on the front row with 10 kills and 11 blocks (3 solo, 8 assists). As a team, Louisville out-blocked Pepperdine 15-5 in the match.
Pepperdine's (1-2) Christina Hinds (Beverly Hills, Calif./William & Mary) led all players with 20 digs.
The Waves will be back in action tonight as they take on tournament host #19 Arizona. The Wildcats are 1-0 in the Classic having swept Nicholls State this morning.
