Women's Volleyball Coach Nina Matthies Hires Assistant Tim Nollan

MALIBU, Calif. - Tim Nollan has been named an assistant coach for the Pepperdine women's volleyball program, 22-year head coach Nina Matthies announced on Monday, August 2. Nollan coached last season as a volunteer assistant at the University of Southern California (USC) and he has served as a longtime club coach with current Pepperdine assistant Tim Jensen. He replaces Melissa Plass on the women's volleyball staff. "I am excited to have Tim join the women's volleyball program because I believe he will be a valuable on-court asset," said Matthies. "He brings in a wealth of knowledge as a teacher and coach of the sport...we expect him to be an important part of our staff this season." Nollan completed his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Women of Troy under head coach Mick Haley in 2003 and walked away with a national championship. As part of the USC staff, Nollan helped the Trojans to a perfect 35-0 record, an NCAA record 47-straight victories and their second-consecutive Pac-10 title and NCAA Championship. A USC alumnus, Nollan has spent the previous five years gaining coaching experience on the club and high school levels. Last season he was the head coach for the boys varsity volleyball team at Campbell Hall High in North Hollywood. Nollan, 26, began working with the volleyball teams at Campbell Hall in 1998 when he was hired as girls volleyball varsity assistant coach. That season, he helped lead the team to the CIF Southern Section semifinals. In 1999 he added to his responsibilities as boys junior varsity head coach. Nollan was promoted to head coach of both the girls and boys varsity volleyball teams in August, 1999. As head coach, he guided the teams to the 1999 (girls) and 2002 (boys) CIF Southern Section quarterfinals and led his 1999 boys squad to the Delphic League Championship. In his five seasons at Campbell Hall, Nollan's teams made a total of seven playoff appearances and captured two tournament championships. He coached two league MVPs and more than 13 all-league selections. Three of his players received CIF All-Southern Section honors and one went on to play collegiate volleyball. During this time, Nollan was also employed by Campbell Hall as a campus network technician for two years (2001-2003). On the club level, Nollan previously served as head coach of the 18-and-under Sport Shack girl's club volleyball team in Beverly Hills, Calif., for four years (Dec. 1999 to 2003). Since the 2003-04 season, he has guided the 14-and-under girl's club volleyball team and will continue to do so this year. Nollan is a 1996 graduate of Campbell Hall. He lettered all four years at setter and garnered various accolades, including All-Alpha League first team (1995, 1996), Los Angeles Times all-county second team (1996) and All-CIF Division III first team (1996). He also spent six years playing club volleyball. Nollan graduated from USC in December 2000 with a bachelor's degree in international relations and a minor in psychology. Born on June 26, 1978, he currently resides in Ventura.
