Seniors Kristen Shultz and Christina Hinds will conclude their very successful volleyball careers this weekend when Pepperdine hosts No. 23 Santa Clara and No. 15 San Diego at Firestone Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.
Hinds will be looking to become the school's all-time digs leader needing just 28 to pass Carolyn Hueth's total of 1,371 established during the 1998-91 seasons. As well as the school record, Hinds can move into fifth all-time in the West Coast Conference, a position currently held by Hueth. The Beverly Hills, Calif., native is averaging 5.70 digs-per-game, placing her 16th in the NCAA and tops in the league.
Shultz, a natural defensive specialist, has been called upon to play on the outside due to injuries throughout the season. The 6-foot Shultz, has had a solid season and been nothing short of outstanding over the last few matches. The Sebastopol, Calif., native has led the teams in kills over the past two matches recording 16 against both Portland and Gonzaga and has compiled 11 double-doubles this season.
Santa Clara enters the weekend with a 17-6 (8-4 WCC) record and downed the Waves in five games in the first meeting of the season.
San Diego has already laid claim to the conference title with a perfect 12-0 league record and 19-4 overall record.
First serve for both matches is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (PT).
