Led by freshman Tarrah Crowley's eighth place finish, the Pepperdine women's cross country team tied for first place in the five-kilometer race at the 2003 Titan Cross Country Invitational run at the Carbon Canyon Park in Brea, California, on Friday.
The Waves tied UCLA and UC Santa Barbara for the top spot at totaled 55 points.
Crowley, who finished in a time of 18:51.4, led a quartet of Pepperdine runners who placed in the Top 20. Sophomore Lauren Tyree (18:58.6) finished 11th, freshman Karen Porter (19:04.4) was 14th and senior Christine Carter (19:18.1) placed 18th.
"Placing first is a great accomplishment for our team," head coach Dick Kampmann. "Our main focus since the start of the season was to continue to get better as the season progressed and to peak heading into the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships.
"We are nearing where we want to be at this team of the year and are entering the conference championships with a lot of confidence," Kampmann added.
In the eight-kilometer men's race, Pepperdine placed fourth with 54 points. Sophomore Chad Trammell led the Waves with a fifth place finish, completing the race in a time of 25:41.8
Pepperdine will travel to the Bay Area next Saturday to compete at the WCC Championships to be contested at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, California.
