Played for four seasons (1976-78 and 1980) ... Was the head coach for 20 seasons (1986-2005) ... As a player, earned three All-American awards and set school records for goals in a career (392) and season (138 in 1978) ... The Waves placed fourth nationally three times ... Competed with the U.S. National Team for 16 years and was one of the nation's top players ... A four-time Olympian as an athlete and won silver medals in 1984 and 1988 ... As head coach, he posted a career record of 340-220 ... Took Pepperdine to the NCAA Championships eight times, including the program's only national championship in 1997 ... Was named the 1997 National Coach of the Year ... Stepped down from Pepperdine to become the U.S. head coach, and led his team to the silver medal at the 2008 Olympics ... Also inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2005 and the U.S. Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1998.
