Head men's basketball coach for nine seasons (1939-40 through 1947-48) ... Established Pepperdine as a nationally prominent team in the school's early years ... Coached Waves to five straight national tournaments from 1942-46, four in the NAIA and the 1944 NCAA Tournament ... His teams finished second in 1945 and third in 1946 at the NAIA events ... Posted a record of 176-102 (.633) as head coach ... A member of the Citizen Savings Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame ... Known as "Mr. NAIA", he was named executive secretary of the organization in 1949, where he stayed until his retirement in 1975 ... A third Vice President with the U.S. Olympic Committee ... Was enshrined in the Naismith Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1982.
