SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Pepperdine women's basketball junior
Shorna Preston has been named West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Week, announced today by the conference.
Preston helped the Waves to a pair of victories this past week over California Baptist (CBU) and Fresno State, notching a double-double in each contest. Preston averaged 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and 2.5 steals per game across the week.
A native of Gold Coast, Australia, Preston began the week with a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to help defeat CBU by a score of 69-58. She added a pair of assists and blocks while recording three steals. Returning at Fresno State, Preston once again led the Waves, logging 16 points with 12 rebounds and four assists to go along with two steals and two blocks as Pepperdine secured a 65-45 win on the road.
Preston's effort against CBU makes her currently one of five players in the country to post at least 20 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and three steals in a single game this season.
The transfer from Dodge City Community College has averaged 9.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season for the Waves while averaging over a block and steal per contest. Preston is the leading rebounder in the West Coast Conference this season while ranking fourth in blocked shots.
Preston and the Waves return Saturday (Dec. 13) to host Cal State Los Angeles at 2 p.m. from Firestone Fieldhouse for Community Day.

Pepperdine women's basketball has made four NCAA postseason appearances in its history, having won the WCC regular-season four times and the WCC Tournament on three occasions.
