ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Pepperdine's
Kaleiya Romero had a terrific first day of the women's college golf season, shooting 7-under over two rounds on Monday to move into second place at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Waves are in eighth place as a team.
Pepperdine shot 587 (298-289) during Monday's two rounds at the par-72 UNM Championship Course.
PLAYER SCORES
- Sophomore Kaleiya Romero (San Jose, Calif.) is just one shot off the lead after her 7-under 137 (70-67). Her 5-under 67 in the afternoon was a career best. She had four birdies in the morning en route to a score of 2-under, and then posted seven birdies in the afternoon.
- Freshman Lauren Gomez (Murrieta, Calif.), making her debut, is tied for 25th at 147 (73-74). She recorded three birdies in each round.
- Junior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) is tied for 56th at 151 (77-74). Four of her six birdies came in the afternoon.
- Sophomore Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia) is tied for 61st at 152 (78-74). She had two birdies in each round.
- Graduate student Megan Dennis (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom) is tied 66th at 153 (78-75). She had two birdies in each round.
- Playing as an individual, freshman Milla Sagel (Bielefeld, Germany) is 90th at 162 (83-79). Three of her four birdies came in the second round.
UP NEXT
Tuesday's third round will have a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. MT. The Waves are paired with Colorado and UNLV.
