
Baisden, Seabert to Compete at World University Games

MALIBU, Calif. - The World University Games will be held in Taipei next month and a pair of recently graduated Pepperdine women's soccer players, Rylee Baisden and Hannah Seabert, will be competing for the USA Women's Soccer Team.
The World University Games, also known as the Universiade, are an international sports competition held every two years and hosted by different countries. The World University Games comprise a summer and winter games held in the same year, and is second only in importance to the Olympics. The 29th Summer World University Games will be held this summer in Taipei, Aug. 19-30, with over 120 countries competing in 22 sports. The games feature current or recently graduated collegiate athletes from around the world.
Baisden and Seabert are two of 16 players representing the United States in women's soccer at the games. Only Pepperdine and Colorado have more than one player named to the squad. Both former Pepperdine players are coming off stints with professional clubs this summer, with Baisden having played for Skovde KIK in Sweden and Seabert training as a third goalkeeper with the Orlando Pride in the NWSL.
Seabert finished her career at Pepperdine as one of the all-time best keeper's in school history, closing her tenure as the Pepperdine record holder with 331 career saves. She is second in career wins as a goalkeeper with 46, third with a 0.90 goals against average, third with 28 career solo shutouts, fourth with a career .813 save percentage and fifth with 4.03 saves per game. Seabert was named the West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year this past season and to the All-WCC first team, and was an NSCAA All-Region honoree twice in her career.
Basiden also finished up a stellar career with the Waves this past fall, earning All-WCC first team honors as a senior. For her career, Baisden scored 12 goals, notched 10 assists and played in a total of 78 games for the Waves. She led the team in both goals and assists this past season and was tied for the team lead in assists as a junior as well.
Women's soccer competition at the World University Games begins Friday, Aug. 18 with the United States competing in Group A with host-country Chinese Taipei, South Korea, and Argentina. The competition features four groups and 13 countries represented in total.
