Pepperdine and San Francisco Box Score (Nov. 7, 2009) 
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Pepperdine's women's soccer team defeated San Francisco 2-1 Saturday afternoon before 267 fans at Negoesco Stadium.
Freshman Callie Payetta (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 78th minute, giving the Waves a final regular-season record of 11-7-1 (3-3-1 WCC).
The loss dropped San Francisco's overall mark to 7-7-5 (1-6 WCC).
Pepperdine, winners of three straight to end the year, reached the 11-win mark for the first time since 2006. The Waves tied archrival Loyola Marymount for fourth place in the WCC, trailing Portland, Santa Clara and San Diego.
Payetta's goal was her fourth of the season and came with the score tied at 1-1. The Dons committed 18 fouls in the match to seven for the Waves.
Senior Sophia Medina (Downey, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) provided Pepperdine with its first lead of the game in the 35th minute, striking a direct shot from 10-yards away past USF's goalkeeper Kelly Pohle.
The goal was Medina's fifth of the year as she led the Waves offensively this season with 11 points. Newcomer and Boston College transfer Michelle Spacciapolli (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS), who fired a game-high five shots Saturday (four on frame), was second to Medina with nine points.
Pohle finished the match with five saves with Pepperdine outshooting San Francisco, 17-4.
The Dons scored their equalizer in the 57th minute after Molly Hall buried her third goal of the year following an assist from Joan Piasta. Hall hit the ball past Pepperdine's freshman goalkeeper Roxanne Barker (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) from approximately 20 yard away.
Barker finished the match with one save, completing the year with 64 and a goals-against average of 1.06. She also pitched eight shutouts - tied for the third highest individual season total in team history.
As a defense, the Waves allowed less than one goal a match this year at 0.95 and opponents averaged 9.4 shots per match against them. Pepperdine is expected to return its entire defense next season as well as four of six starters on offense.
