SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Pepperdine's women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to San Diego Sunday Afternoon at Torero Stadium.

The loss lowered the Waves' overall record to 8-7-1 and 1-3-1 within the West Coast Conference. They need to win their next two conference games against Saint Mary's next Sunday and at San Francisco on Nov. 7 to guarantee a winning season and .500 finish in conference play.

San Diego out shot the Waves 9-7, connecting in the 34th and 64th minutes. Christine Mock was credited with the game-winner after receiving assists from Stephanie Ochs and Addie Cartan. Ochs possessed the ball deep in Pepperdine territory, then chipped a pass to Cartan, who in turn then sent a cross to Mock, who redirected the ball into the back of the net.

The Toreros clinched the match midway through the second half on Mariah Hobbs' first goal of 2009. Elissa Magracia picked up a loose ball on the far side of the goal box, then crossed it to Mock, standing at the center of the 18. Mock faked a shot, which drew in a Wave defender, but instead passed to Hobbs, who delivered the one-timer.

Freshman goalkeeper Roxanne Barker (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) finished the game with five saves, while sophomore Michelle Spacciapolli (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) led the Pepperdine offense with three shots.

The Waves return home to Tari Frahm Rokus field Thursday at 3 p.m. against Seattle University for their final non-conference match of the season.
