Paul Coleman Named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week

Junior left-hander Paul Coleman was named a Louisville Slugger "National Player of the Week" for his record-breaking performance against New Orleans during the Dairy Queen Classic in Minnesota, it was announced by Collegiate Baseball on Monday.
Coleman pitched a complete-game two-hitter, allowing two hits and striking out a school-record 16 batters in a 9-0 victory over New Orleans on Saturday. He set down 16 of the final 17 batters, including 12 straight to end the game, and was named to the all-tournament team.
It marked Coleman's first career complete game and his strikeout total eclipsed the previous record of 15 set by former Pepperdine All-American Noah Lowry at Santa Clara in 2001. His complete-game shutout was also the first by a Waves pitcher since Brandon Boesch went the distance against Gonzaga in 2003.
Pepperdine returns to action this week when it hosts the Yellow Book USA Classic beginning Friday at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Waves open play against No. 30 Winthrop at 2 p.m.
